Callanwolde Fine Arts Festival Set for January 25-26

CallanwoldeArtsFestival_LogoSet your calendar now for the first annual Callanwolde Arts Festival! This event is a two-day indoor arts festival on January 25 – 26, 2014 which promises to become one of the premier partnerships of art institutions in the Atlanta area. It is a festival for artists by artists, letting the artist have a voice in the creation and operations of the festival.

This event will feature approximately 86 painters, photographers, sculptors, metalwork, glass artists, jewelers and more! The festival will also offer artist demonstrations, live acoustic music, plus gourmet food trucks with healthy alternatives and music and dance performances.

Tickets are $5 per person and they’re available online or at the door.

Atlanta Young Singers Holding Auditions for New Members

Atlanta Young Singers is looking for the best young voices in Virginia-Highland!

Since 1975, AYS has been at the forefront of choral art in metro Atlanta and the U.S., thrilling audiences all over the world with innovative programming, professional performance, and exciting commissions. AYS nurtures the incredible artistic abilities of children, offering excellent choral and musical training in a challenging learning environment for boys and girls in grades 2-12.

Currently, AYS serves over 200 singers. In our last season alone, these singers performed at Carnegie Hall, were awarded two Gold Diplomas at the 2012 World Choir Games and sang for President Jimmy Carter. AYS helps to begin an arts adventure that will last a lifetime and has been a part of the Virginia-Highland community for over 37 years!

Individual audition appointments will be held through August for each of seven AYS Choirs – including Training and Treble Concert Choirs rehearsing close by at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.

Callanwolde Announces 2013 Jazz on the Lawn Lineup

Callanwolde has announced its 2013 Jazz on the Lawn lineup:

In a perfect setting for summer outdoor concerts, Callanwolde’s Jazz on the Lawn showcases a lineup of Atlanta’s finest jazz treasures performing a mix of classic and contemporary jazz, swing, fusion, Latin and blues. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Callanwolde’s grounds it’s a great way to join friends, unwind and listen to an evening of live music.

Guests are invited to bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy these special concerts under the stars. Jazz on the Lawn series continues throughout the summer as Callanwolde hosts a brilliant selection of musicians on the following dates:

Sewage spill into Rosedale Road lots

Thanx to Rosedale Road residents David Brandenberger and Tom Spach for their relentless phone calls wading through the watershed management bureaucracies of DeKalb County and the City of Atlanta to bring an end to the raw sewage spill behind the east-side homes on their street, and enlisting the help of reporter Lesley Tanner of Channel 46.
