Dogwood Festival and possible Freaknik

This Weekend – April 16th Through the 18th

Plan your weekend driving very carefully – traffic is bound to be a real challenge with all the events scheduled (with or without Freaknik). It will be best to avoid Monroe Drive, 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue, and use either PDL Avenue, Cheshire Bridge Road or Briarcliff Road as exits and entrances. Yeah – this may be inconvenient, but the time saved in the long run may make it worth while.

Be prepared to show your drivers license for proof of residency on some of our streets if traffic really gets heavy.

The Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services at 404-330-6023 can be called for city-related non-emergency and general questions on Friday from 8:15 a.m. til 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. til 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. til 4 p.m.

I also had a call Thursday afternoon from Mitzi Bickers from the Mayor’s Office offering her city cell phone number at 404-558-6970 for non-emergency calls at times other than when the office will be open for calls. Just please be judicious in using this number for this weekend only but if your driveway is blocked, traffic signals are not working, etc. she will take your call. For all emergency calls – use 911 as usual.

If you are attending the Dogwood Festival this weekend – buy a beer or soda from the Midtown MPSA folks at the 14th Street entrance to the park. Funds raised go towards supporting their off-duty patrol group – the Midtown Ponce Security Alliance. Midtown also has a tour of homes this weekend.

Plan your weekend carefully and enjoy this wonderful weather. As usual, warn your visitors to clean out their cars before parking here – the thieves are bound to be out this weekend also.
