National Night Out Event Recap

Home » National Night Out Event Recap

I always knew that some year we would get rained out – and this was the year!! We were off to a rousing start – a good crowd (in spite of the heat and stifling humidity). lots of Zone 6 personnel, two mounted policemen, our AFR Station # 19 firefighters, good music, good food from Whole Foods, several politico reps – and then the rain and lightning came, and it was over.

Thanx to our co-chairs – Joy Rousso and Max Alligood, all of the community volunteers, including Susan Longley from the Garrison after-school program, our business sponsors – Whole Foods (for the 3rd year) , CVS North Highland, Glamour Paws, Intown Animal Hospital, Bark Busters and City Storage. Thanx also to Virginia Highland Church for the loan of tables and chairs, musicians Tom Wilner and Westin Taylor, and to Jeff Ferguson at City Storage for the loan of a U-Haul and muscle for moving the tables and chairs. In spite of the outcome – a textbook example of community partnering to achieve a goal.

I am now petitioning to move the City of Atlanta National Night Out event to October next year when we have more hospitable weather conditions – stay tuned for this.
