We’re 83% Funded! 🎉

In June, we set a summer goal to reach 60 Founding Members and $350,000 in individual fundraising. Thanks to neighbors like you, we beat both: As of this week, 144 neighbors have given $393,000, including 85 Founding Members and families. Add city and grant funding, and we're at $793,000 of our $950,000 goal!

Big News: We've Selected Our Build Partner

Thanks to this funding milestone, we’ve signed an agreement with CORE Landscape to build the new playground, including rain gardens and pathways. They bring 20 years of expertise shaping Atlanta’s outdoor spaces, and we can't wait to see them bring this project to life. Their team will be at our Party In the Park event on October 18, so come by to say hello.

Help Us Close the Final Gap!

We still need $157,000 to break ground on this project. If you’ve been waiting to give, or to step up to a higher giving level, please join your neighbors and give today!

Give any amount online or send a check by mail. For DAF giving or workplace matching, use EIN: 26-4175136 and note Friends of John Howell Park in the memo.

Connecting Classrooms to the Community

Friends of John Howell Park board members Johnson Bazzel, Jim Coe, and Matt Perrine—all fourth-grade parents—recently visited Virginia-Highland Elementary to help kick off the fourth grade’s Project-Based Learning unit.

Using the park renovation as a real-world example, they introduced students to the steps involved in a community project and explored how planned stormwater improvements, including rain gardens, can help protect the environment. Students then toured the park to connect classroom learning to their own neighborhood. It was a great opportunity to take learning outdoors and help kids see how thoughtful park design can benefit our community!
