Virginia-Highland Civic Association to Host Annual Meeting on September 8
The Virginia-Highland Civic Association (VHCA) will hold its Annual Meeting on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Virginia-Highland Elementary School, 774 Virginia Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30306.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with opportunities for neighbors to learn about volunteer roles and community engagement. At 6:45 p.m., the Springdale Park Elementary School Advanced Chorus, under the direction of music teacher Brianne Turgeon, will perform as part of the “Young Voices from our Community” feature.
Following the performance, VHCA President Alex Bevel Jones will open the meeting, introduce current board members and candidates, and welcome elected officials. The agenda includes:
- Panel on Atlanta’s Infrastructure – Featuring Georgia State Senator Nan Orrock, City of Atlanta Chief Operating Officer LaChandra Burks, and Atlanta City Councilmember Alex Wan (District 6)
- Community Vote – Consideration of VHCA/VHCL consolidation and revised bylaws, with input from Peggy Berg, Mary Frances Jones, and attorney Jeff Woodward.
- Community Celebrations – Highlights from recent and upcoming events including Summerfest, Tour of Homes, Fire House #19 Centennial, and the Holiday Lights Contest.
- Parks and Schools Updates – Including Atlanta Public Schools facilities planning, Midtown High School’s upcoming City Council District 2 debate, and updates on John Howell Park renovations.
- Advocacy & Planning – Discussion on Virginia Avenue bike lanes, Georgia Power utility poles, and Atlanta Zoning 2.0.
The evening will conclude with a Treasurer’s Report, updates from Friends of Virginia-Highland, and volunteer sign-ups.
The VHCA, a volunteer-led nonprofit that has served the neighborhood for more than 50 years, encourages all residents to attend and participate in shaping the future of Virginia-Highland. See attachments for further information about the meeting.
