The following reports are gleaned from our Zone 6 crime stats for weeks 3 and 4 of 2010 – with emphasis on our beat # 603, but with news from all over the zone as it pertains to us. Just because the cold weather seemed to slow down criminal activity for this time period – don’t let down your sense of awareness and alertness, because they will be back!!

Auto Theft – Vehicles were stolen from Greenwood Avenue, Virginia Avenue and St. Louis Place. Because of the cold weather – 3 vehicles were stolen around the zone when the owners left them unattended while warming them up. A cold car seat is better than no seat at all!!

Residential Burglary – A condo residence at the Carlton on Highland Lane was entered via a kicked-in front door. All around the zone in this time period 7 homes were entered via kicked-in doors.

Commercial Burglary – Prima on Dutch Valley Place was entered via a smashed-in front window.

Larceny from Auto – Vehicles were broken into on Arlington Place (2), Los Angeles Avenue (2), Highland View, Lanier Boulevard, North Highland Avenue (5), PDL Avenue (2), Rosedale Drive, St. Charles Avenue, Briarcliff Place, Park Drive, Greenwood Avenue, and Virginia Avenue. Basically, the same streets every report – right? All around the zone in this time period – sixteen GPS systems taken, 2 in-dash stereo/radios ripped out, two license plates taken off (keep checking to make sure you still have a plate in back), and 3 more weapons added to the arsenal already on the streets. The AT&T parking lot on Chester Avenue, S.E. was hit yet again with 8 catalytic converters being sawed off work vans. I would think that by now AT&T would be instituting some new security measures for this lot as many times as they have been hit with this theft problem.

Larceny Other – Our PDL Avenue Kroger and Publix stores caught 3 shoplifters – I always wonder as to how many they do not catch at these stores. All around the zone, a/c units continue to be stolen, presumably for scrap copper.

Be alert and stay safe!!
