Do all of these reports say something to you about walking alone after dark on our streets?
Residential Burglary – Residences were broken into on Park Drive (no sign of forced entry), Bonaventure Avenue (via a broken door glass), Clemont Drive (the babysitter left the front door unlocked), and PDL Place (entry via a broken window). All around Zone 6 in this time period, 5 residences were entered via a kicked-in door.
Commercial Burglary – A tanning salon in Amsterdam Walk lost their flat screen tv set.
Larceny From Auto – Vehicles were entered on Virginia Avenue, Los Angeles Avenue, Barnett Street (2), St. Charles Place, PDL Avenue (4), Frederica Street (2), St. Charles Avenue (2), and Monroe Drive. In a reversal of our usual pattern – 11 of these 14 incidents ( 2 per day!) involved VaHi owners as opposed to visitors. I guess that not all of our residents have been warned to keep their cars cleaned out. In this time period in all of Zone 6 – 8 GPS systems were taken, one weapon stolen, 3 license plates were taken off, 6 radios taken out, 2 catalytic converters sawed off and in 5 reported cases – nothing was taken at all. Don’t ask me as to why some seemingly empty cars are invaded – I have no answer for this.
Larceny Other – At the PDL Avenue Kroger store, an unwatched purse was taken from a shopping cart and at the PDL Avenue Publix an unwatched cell phone was taken. Be alert when shopping – someone is watching you! Our PDL Avenue Kroger and Publix supermarkets caught 5 shoplifters. A/C units continue to be stolen around the Zone.
Elsewhere in the Zone – at 2:45 a.m. a Memorial Drive prostitute was counting her “earnings” when a perp snatched her cash as well as her bag of weed – occupational hazard, I guess.
This report I just could not believe, that in 2010 folks can still be flim-flammed “On Moreland Avenue in mid-afternoon – the male suspect tricked the female victim into holding money for him inside a handkerchief and making sure she put his money with hers. A female suspect approached and had the victim take them to a nearby church. The male suspect asked the victim for her jewelry since she had his money and she gave him two gold rings. They exchanged phone numbers and parted. Later on the victim discovered that a piece of newspaper was in the handkerchief instead of cash.”
Stay alert and stay safer!
