“Maiden Trail” Awarded a “Love Your Block” Grant From the City

Congratulations to the dedicated and hard-working St. Charles Avenue residents whose homes back up to the alleyway between their backyards and PDL Avenue (now dubbed Maiden Trail) for applying for and receiving a city grant for improvements to what they envision becoming a well-used walking and exercise path. Thanks to Zone 6 for instituting regular patrols through this alley. These folks are having another cleaning session Saturday 5/3. Meet at the alley and Barnett Street dressed in old clothes and with heavy gloves. These folks deserve some help from all of the community.

The Car Repair Scammer Is Back

Thanks to WSB-TV for broadcasting this story, complete with a mug shot, about Orlando Rodriguez, who has been scamming folks for many years along PDL Avenue. He selects mostly American made trucks, vans and SUV’s where it is easy to crawl under and quickly disengage the transmission cable – then when the driver comes back to their vehicle and cannot get it into gear, he suddenly appears with an offer to fix the problem. Please refuse his offer and call 911 immediately. Then call Midtown Tire at 404-874-1112 for real help – store manager Seth Jones will send someone to help you at no charge.  http://midtowntire.com/tires-auto-services-atl-ga. The WSB-TV story is at http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/apd-issues-new-warning-about-long-running-repair-s/nfhTP/.

The following reports are taken from our APD Zone 6 (http://atlantapd.org/Zone6.aspx) Beat 601 reported incidents for the 2014 weeks 14 and 15 (3/30-4/14).  These reports are not meant to scare anyone, but to raise your level of alertness as to what happens around us everyday.

Aggravated Assault: No reported incidents in Beat 601. However, nearby on Boulevard in front of the Atlanta Medical Center, the suspect cut off the victim in traffic – the victim blew her horn and slammed on her brakes to avoid hitting the suspect vehicle. Shortly the suspect cut her off on Freedom Parkway, she pulled up next to him and he flashed a revolver at her. Road rage could be dangerous – resist the temptation for interaction.

Auto Theft: An unlocked 1994 Honda Accord was taken from a Virginia Circle driveway and was later recovered still in drivable condition.

Commercial Burglary: No reported incidents in Beat 601.

Residential Burglary: No reported incidents in Beat 601.

Commercial Robbery: No reported incidents in Beat 601.

Residential Robbery: No reported incidents in Beat 601.

Pedestrian Robbery: No reported incidents in Beat 601.

Larceny From Vehicle: An unlocked Grady EMS van on Monroe Drive was entered and a drug bag and narcotics taken. On Drewry Street $15 in cash and a checkbook were taken. On Virginia Circle there were two incidents with unlocked cars in driveways – a camera and jewelry taken from one and a laptop taken from the other. On Adair Avenue clothing was taken. On St. Charles Avenue a GPS, laptop and sunglasses were taken. On Cresthill Avenue an iPod was stolen. And on Virginia Avenue a camera, clothing, a cell phone and a book bag were stolen. All around the Zone in this time period there were 77 such reported incidents.

Larceny Other: A bicycle was taken from under a PDL Terrace back porch.

Nearby the Walgreen and Publix stores at North and Piedmont Avenues reported 7 shoplifting incidents. Amazingly enough, no reports from the Target store at Edgewood. There was a snatch and grab of a purse at the Publix at North and Piedmont Avenues.

In between the rains get out and enjoy spring in Atlanta. Do please remember though the Clean Car Campaign and keep ALL parked cars cleaned out at ALL times. Remind your visitors, too.
