Crime reports
The following crime reports are for weeks # 40 and 41 of 2009 and are gleaned from the Zone 6 reports, with emphasis on our beat # 603 – but with news from around the Zone as it pertains to us. Again – I stress that these reports are not meant to scare anyone, but to make you aware of what happens around us every day and raise your level of awareness and alertness.
Aggravated Assault – This unusual incident occurred 10/1 at 1:20 a.m. in an apartment house on St. Charles Avenue. I really couldn’t condense this report “Arrestee returned home to hear loud music from victim’s apartment which had been an ongoing problem. The arrestee turned off victim’s power at the circuit breaker which is in his apartment. Victim came to ask about the power problem, at which time arrestee put a knife to victim’s neck and threatened to kill him. Victim overpowered arrestee and waited for police in his apartment.”
Auto Theft – A 911 call about someone entering a vehicle brought officers who tailed the perps and brought about an arrest of one juvenile – with one escaping. A vehicle was stolen on Adair Avenue by a tow truck. Vehicles were also stolen from Hudson Drive and Lanier Boulevard.
Residential Burglary – On Brookridge Drive a w/m was encountered by the apartment resident who let him escape via the front door. A Drewry Street home was entered via a brick thrown thru the kitchen window, and a Monroe Drive home was entered via a kicked-in back door. An empty foreclosed St. Charles Avenue house had copper piping ripped out.
All around Zone 6 entry to 13 homes was made via kicked-in doors and 2 pet doors. Think about that doggie door!!
Commercial Burglary – Harry Norman Realty on Piedmont Road was entered via a smashed window, and Oxford Cleaners on Moreland Avenue was entered via a rock through the front window and lost 25 pairs of customer’s jeans. At the storage facility on Monroe Drive a unit was entered. The CVS at Ansley was entered by pushing a Kroger shopping cart through the glass front door. Wonder if they have gotten stronger glass now?
Commercial Robbery – The Wachovia on Cheshire Bridge Road was robbed by a lone gunman who escaped. The Starbucks on Moreland Avenue was robbed twice on 9/27 and 10/2 both times at night.
Larceny from Auto – Vehicles were broken into on Briarcliff Place, Drewry Street, Greenwood Avenue, Lanier Boulevard, PDL Avenue, Virginia Avenue and North Highland Avenue (2). Of these 8 incidents – 5 of the owners were from outside of the neighborhood. All around Zone 6 in this time span 4 in-dash stereos were ripped out, one more hand gun in the hands of a thug, 15 GPS systems taken, 2 incidents of tires/wheels taken off, and the most unusual item taken – a bag of kitty litter.
Larceny Other – A bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at the PDL Avenue Publix and another from the bike storage area in a Dutch Valley Road parking garage. A wallet left at Fontaine’s had the credit card used, and a driver’s license was stolen from an MJQ Club patron. At the PDL Avenue Kroger a male dressed in women’s clothes pushed out a full buggy of groceries to a waiting vehicle while someone distracted the security guard. Our PDL Avenue Kroger and Publix caught 3 shoplifters and at Edgewood, Target and Best Buy caught 2 each.
Pedestrian Robbery – At 11:10 p.m. on Lenox Road, 2 h/m were robbed by 4 juvenile h/m. On Virginia Avenue on 9/27 at 2:45 a.m. 2 young males and a female were robbed at gunpoint by a b/m and a b/f who then fled in a vehicle. These late – nite walkabouts are not wise!!
Be alert and be safe!!
